GRD 200 - Typography

This course is a multidisciplinary investigation of typography as a critical element of visual communication. Students will learn fundamental typography terminology, the history and anatomy of type, type classifications and grid systems. The course places emphasis on readability and legibility of text and the relationships between typography, space, and message/context. Projects will highlight typography’s ability to convey information, influence behaviors, and evoke emotional responses from viewers. Students will create typographic compositions through both analogue and Adobe software methods. A series of comprehensive, investigative assignments and exercises will help students build upon their typography knowledge and technical skillsets achieved within GRD 106  and GRD 150 .
