BHP 630 - Foundations of Counseling

3 Hour(s)

Major historical systems and figures in scientific and clinical psychology are discussed in relation to the emerging values and professional issues that define the field of clinical mental health counseling. The contributions of varied therapeutic approaches on current directions in counseling training and practice are analyzed. A foundational strengths-based model is emphasized as central to the scope of counseling’s promotion of wellness for individuals, families, and communities. We examine a variety of roles and responsibilities beyond psychotherapy, including prevention, consultation, advocacy, and education.
