BHP 530 - Ethics and Professional Issues in Counseling and Psychology 3 Hour(s)
This course surveys ethical, professional, and legal issues in counseling, psychology, and related mental health professions. Professional organizations, practice and credentialing standards, and past and present professional trends are addressed. The distinctions between federal and state legal definitions and ethical standards and code of ethics are emphasized. The American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics is used as the standard of practice, and the APA standards and code of ethics are introduced and compared and contrasted with the ACA. Ethical professional behavior as it pertains to general practice (including telehealth), supervision, consultation, assessment, and research are addressed. Ethical professional practice regarding the therapeutic relationship and diversity and inclusivity are emphasized.
Lecture Prerequisite(s): Enrolled in the MS in Behavioral Health Psychology program and in good student standing; Undergraduate Psychology majors of Junior or Senior standing with authorization from their Faculty Advisor
