EDU 249 - Development, Outcomes, and Assessment

This pre-methods course extends the study of principles and theories of learner development in cognitive, affective, psychomotor, social and language domains. The course provides the theoretical and practical background knowledge necessary to understand development and the implications for assessing learning. An overview of educational assessment methods for classroom students with developmental differences will also be provided. Throughout the course, students will examine the difference between learning goals and learner outcomes, articulating relevant and measurable learning targets. Students will develop strategies for using formative, summative, and diagnostic assessments to inform instruction and provide evidence of student learning. Students will identify methods for providing meaningful feedback on learning with K-12 students and their families. Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed upon inclusive teaching and learning practices.

Prerequisite(s): EDU 203 , Completion or concurrent enrollment in EDU 261
