SOC 323 - Community Development & Social Change 4 Hour(s) Examines structural aspects of community development and cultural dimensions of social change from a sociological perspective, with emphasis on rural / urban sociology, political economy, and sociology of development. Explores societal patterns in planning, organization, and transformation of rural communities, cities, and metropolises. Analyzes social constructions of cultural meanings of “sustainability”; their role in public policies and “development” indicators; and the social, economic, and ecological aspects of contemporary development paradigms. Considers mechanisms, limits, and possibilities of strategies for social change at local, regional, and national scales in a globalized world.
