NCE 353 - Finding Unity in Diversity: Italian Politics, Past and Present 4 Hour(s) This course explores key themes of Italian culture, history, and, in particular, politics to prepare students to interact with individuals, institutions, and communities in Italy. During the course of the semester, core concepts will be introduced through readings, group presentations, language training, and discussion. Because our time in Italy will be concentrated in Florence, particular attention will be directed to Florence’s role in greater Italian history, politics, and culture. The course - both during the semester and while in Italy - will engage with a diversity of topics, including the role of women, religious minorities, and foreigners; the challenges of creating and maintaining and united Italy; and the tensions between Italian political, economic, and social forces.
