In order to earn the emphasis at Carroll University, pre-health students must complete the four courses associated with the track. These courses will satisfy some prerequisite requirements for admission to most professional/graduate schools in that area. As these requirements vary by school, it is the student’s responsibility to be aware of specific program requirements and to consult with a pre-health advisor for guidance. Additional prerequisite course requirements may exist.
Pre-requisite courses for many Veterinary Programs include*:
General Biology with Lab (1-2 semesters), Genetics (1 semester), Zoology or Anatomy and Physiology (1 semester), General Chemistry with Lab (2 semesters), Organic Chemistry with Lab (1-2 semesters), Biochemistry (1 semester), General Physics with Lab (2 semesters), Statistics (1 semester), English (2 semesters) and various humanities/social sciences.
Accepting Transfer Credits from Veterinary School to Complete a Carroll University Degree
- In order to transfer credits back to Carroll upon entering a Veterinary School accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education, students must complete a Carroll University Academic Affairs Petition within six months of completing their first year of veterinary school and within 3 years of being a full-time student at Carroll.
- Students are allowed to transfer up to 32 semester credits, or the equivalent, to complete their 128-credit graduation requirement.
- Students majoring in Biology:
- are allowed to transfer up to 8 credits of upper-level biology electives to complete the requirements of the Biology major. They must take their Ecological elective at Carroll.
- must complete the capstone courses (Bio 395 and 495) at Carroll.
- Students majoring in Animal Behavior:
- will fulfill their professional experience requirement and will have the requirement of PSY 401 (Behavioral Neuroscience) waived by successfully completing 8 credits of veterinary school coursework.
- must complete all other required coursework for the Animal Behavior major during their time at Carroll.
- Students majoring in other disciplines (e.g., Biochemistry)
- Must complete all required coursework for their major during their time at Carroll.
- Students should complete all general education and Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts coursework (e.g., Pioneer Core courses, distribution courses, ENG 170, mathematics competency, etc.) at Carroll or arrange for pre-approved transfer credit from another institution.
Students who successfully complete these requirements will be granted transfer credit and awarded the appropriate Carroll University undergraduate degree.
