Admission to Carroll University is offered to those for whom academic and personal success seems likely. Each candidate is evaluated individually. Evidence of good character and demonstrated ability to do university level work is essential.
Options for Attending Carroll
Students may enroll at Carroll University on either a full-time or part-time basis.
- Full-time - students who carry 12 credits or more per semester.
- Part-time - students who carry 11 credits or fewer per semester.
Part-time students may enroll under one of the following categories:
- Degree seeking - students working toward an Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Non-degree seeking - students taking courses for enrichment, skill-building, or preparation for graduate study purposes. Courses may be taken for credit or audit (students do not receive university credit for their work).
Note: Students may move between full-time and part-time status. However, they should be aware of implications for tuition and fees, financial aid, housing, etc.
Application Deadline
Students are encouraged to file applications for admission to the first semester (fall) before March 15. Applications will be considered and qualified candidates will be accepted as long as there are openings in the entering class. Applications and all supporting documents for admission to the second semester (spring) should be filed before November 1. Students seeking application to a direct admission program should refer to the respective program for application deadlines.
For students choosing to submit a test score, either the ACT or SAT should be taken before March 15 of the matriculation year.
Early or Deferred Admission
Carroll recognizes the varying needs of individual students with the following options:
Early admission may be granted following the completion of three years of secondary school, provided the secondary school indicates that it is in the applicant’s best interest to do so. The applicant may or may not have completed the coursework required for secondary school graduation at the time of admission, but must show unusual promise and achievement.
Deferred admission may be offered to students who want to delay university study for a semester or full year after graduating from secondary school.
Procedures for Admission - Full-Time First-Year
The following credentials must be submitted to the Office of Admission:
- Carroll Application or Common Application may be submitted following completion of junior year (sixth semester).
- Transcript from an accredited secondary school that shows progress toward, or the completion of, graduation requirements.
- Carroll University is Test Optional. Applicants may choose to submit an ACT or SAT score with their application or select “Test Optional” on the application to have their credentials reviewed without a test score.

Decisions are made on applications when they are complete. In some instances, the files of prospective students are referred to the Admission Committee for review and action. That body may grant admission to the University provided certain conditions are met or may require the student to satisfy specified criteria. Final admission to a health science program is contingent upon the ability of the applicant to comply with the technical standards as listed in the catalog under each area of study, as well as the health standards listed on the Carroll University health forms.
University applicants with disabilities bear no obligation to disclose their disabilities during the application process. However, an applicant may choose to disclose his/her disability to the Office of Admission if the student believes that he/she does not meet the University’s regular admission requirements. The disability may be taken into consideration in relationship to the student’s overall achievement, the effect of the disability on his/her academic achievement, and the likelihood of the student’s success in the University’s programs, courses and activities.
Following acceptance, students intending to enroll must pay a $200 confirmation deposit.
Those who apply for financial aid are not required to declare their intention to enroll until after they have been notified of their final financial aid award.
Procedures for Admission - Full-Time Transfer
Degree-seeking students must submit the following credentials to the Office of Admission:
- Carroll Application or Common Application.
- Transcript from an accredited secondary school.
- Transcript(s) from all post-secondary institutions attended.

Transfer Credit
Courses completed at a two-year or four-year, regionally accredited post-secondary institution may be eligible for transfer credit provided:
- Transfer courses are deemed eligible for elective or specific course credit.
- All courses accepted in transfer and applied to graduation hours are graded C- or better.
- A maximum of 72 credits may transfer from a two-year institution and/or with an associate degree.
- There is no limit as to the number of credits eligible for transfer from a four-year institution and/or with a bachelor’s degree.
- Students must complete their final 32 credits at Carroll, including at least one-fourth of their major credits and one-fourth of the minor credits.
Transfer Credit Terms:
- All transfer coursework must be graded C- or better to be accepted as credit earned towards graduation and to meet course requirements, including Pioneer Core distribution courses and major and minor requirement courses.
- A course in which a student received a D or F grade may be repeated for credit and only the last grade earned will be used in the grade point average calculation.
- Transfer students with an Associate of Arts, Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Science, or an Associate of Arts & Science degree or a previous Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution will be exempt from the Pio Core. Mathematical literacy and foreign language requirements for B.S. and B.A. degrees may also be exempt unless the courses are required for the major. First-year students with an associate degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution will have ENG 170 Writing Seminar waived and will meet all GE1 distribution components. Transfer credit may fulfill the COM, GE2 and CCE requirements subject to evaluation. FYE 100 is required. Associate degree must be earned prior to matriculating to Carroll University.
- Transfer students without an associate degree, who have completed a minimum of 45 credit hours of transferable college-level coursework from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution will be waived from the ENG 170 Writing Seminar and GE1 distribution components in the Pio Core. Transfer credit may fulfill the COM, GE2 and CCE requirements subject to evaluation. FYE 199 is required.
- Students may be eligible for retroactive credit when transferring in an upper-level modern language or math course(s). Retroactive credit will be granted at Carroll University only if the transferring institution previously awarded retroactive credit(s). If the transferring institution did not award retroactive credit(s), Carroll University would only grant credit for the upper-level course(s).

- Students may be eligible for a maximum of 60 credits earned for military coursework as reflected on a JST transcript. Specific course equivalencies may be awarded subject to faculty approval.
- All transfer coursework is evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Pio Core requirements must be completed by either transfer or Carroll University credit.
- Coursework completed through online learning platforms will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis to determine transfer ability and alignment with program requirements; however, courses taken through Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS), are not eligible for credit.
- If a student repeated a course in which they initially received a grade of C- or better and the repeated course had an unsatisfactory grade (D or F), they will receive the last grade earned. The final grade will be used in the grade point average calculation.
- Course grades, grade point average, and timeline stipulations may exist for specific academic programs. Please refer to the academic program for details.
Transfer credit policy after enrollment at Carroll University: Individual departments will evaluate transfer courses to ensure equivalent content is being learned by the student. Therefore, it is necessary to submit a Transfer Credit Approval Form to the Carroll University Registrar’s Office for course authorization prior to registering at another institution. All coursework must be graded C- or better to be accepted, unless otherwise specified by individual programs. Grade point deficiencies at Carroll University cannot be made up with transfer course credit. Note: Full-time and part-time students are required to complete their final 32 credits at Carroll.
Procedures for Admission - Part-Time Students
Degree-seeking students must submit the following credentials to the Office of Admission:
1. Carroll Application or Common Application.
2. Transcript from an accredited secondary school.
3. Transcript(s) from all post-secondary institutions attended.
Non-degree seeking students must submit the following credentials to the Office of Admission:
1. Carroll Non-Degree Application.
2. Transcript(s) from all post-secondary institutions attended may be required to verify prerequisite coursework.

Evaluation for acceptance generally takes one to three weeks and is done on a rolling basis.

Procedures for Admission - Returning Students
There are two types of returning students:
- Students seeking to return who have not enrolled at another college or university after leaving Carroll
- Students seeking to return who enrolled at another college or university since leaving Carroll
Students having taken time away will submit the Returning Student Form. Students having taken coursework at another institution since leaving Carroll will apply as a transfer student and submit the Carroll Application or Common Application. Official transcripts are required for transfer credit evaluation.
Students who have been suspended from the University and are eligible to reapply, will be reviewed for readmission by the Registrar’s Office. Students will be notified of their acceptance status and any conditions of readmission, including catalog year degree requirements. Students planning to reapply to a Health Sciences program should refer to the Policy on Reapplication to a Health Sciences Program.
Advanced Placement
Applicants will be considered for advanced placement according to the policies established by Carroll University. The applicant’s advanced standing is determined individually and is based on an evaluation of all prior academic work.
Options for advanced placement include:
- Advanced placement (AP) exams
- Dual enrollment college credit
- Retroactive credit for modern languages and math
- CLEP exams (College Level Examination Program)
- DSST exams (Dantes Subject Standardized Test)
- International Baccalaureate Diploma and/or courses with high level exams
- Military training and education
- Credit for prior learning
- On-line learning platform courses
Articulation Agreements
Carroll University maintains articulation agreements with several Wisconsin institutions of higher learning. More information is available from the Office of Admission and on the university website.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography Admission
The Carroll University Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program admits qualified students regardless of race, color, creed, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, national or ethnic origin or disability that does not interfere with the performance of professional sonography practice as provided by law. Admission and progression standards are subject to change based on regulatory licensing, and/or certification needs.
The DMS program is comprised of four total years of study and requires students to attend class year-round. Courses completed in summer or winter terms will incur additional tuition fees (refer to the catalog for current tuition rates). Students can enter the DMS program in one of two ways: direct admission or competitive admission.
Direct Admission Option - Direct admission entry provides select incoming, full-time, first-time freshmen matriculating directly out of high school an opportunity to enter directly into the pre-professional phase of the program and receive a guaranteed hospital seat, provided progression standards and cohort requirements are met.
The following are requirements to be considered for DMS direct admission (high school courses must be from an accredited secondary school with grades of “C” or higher):
- Three years of mathematics
- One year of biology
- One year of chemistry or physics
- High school GPA of 3.0
- Additional rigor, including physics, anatomy and physiology, AP or IB courses, dual enrollment or other college-level coursework may be considered
- Submission of essay
To apply for direct admission:
- Apply to Carroll University
- List Health Sciences - Diagnostic Medical Sonography as your first-choice program.
- Select “Yes” that you would like to be considered for Direct Admission.
- Indicate Early Action (EA) or Regular Decision (RD) on your application.
- Submit the following items to complete the application process:
- High school transcripts through the sixth semester
- Senior class schedule (recommended)
Evaluations for early action candidates will begin in February with offers being made until seats are filled with final offers made until seats are filled through April 1. Evaluations for regular decision candidates will begin in April, as space permits. We do not guarantee review of regular decision candidates.
Those accepted for DMS direct admission must sign, submit and meet program Safety and Technical Standards and Progression Standards.
By accepting a direct admission offer, students are committing to enroll in that specific hospital’s program. If choosing to apply as a competitive admission candidate to another hospital partner’s program, the student agrees to forfeit their initial direct admission seat.
- Continued Direct Admission Requirements - To proceed into the professional phase of the DMS program, students must satisfy specific requirements by November 15 of their second year. As admissions and progression standards are subject to change, students should refer to the Admissions section of their applicable Carroll University Academic Catalog for specific details and work closely with the Health & Medical Sciences Advisor. Admission criteria will include both academic and non-academic factors related to the following areas:
- Fulfillment of Carroll University general education and graduation requirements completed by the start of the hospital program. ANP 140 and ANRS236 must be completed or in progress by the spring term of the second year.
- Admitted students must submit official transcripts from all colleges attended directly to their hospital program prior to matriculation. Transfer courses without a posted transcript grade will not be accepted as complete. Applicable AP credit for required courses will be considered.
- Minimum grade point average of 3.2 in general pre-requisite courses, 3.2 in science-specific pre-requisite courses, and 2.5 in physics pre-requisite course.
- A grade of C or higher in general pre-requisite courses and science-specific pre-requisite courses, and a grade of BC or higher in the physics pre-requisite course.
- Pre-requisite courses may only be repeated once. Grades for multiple course attempts will be averaged.
- Participation in career exploration, job shadowing, and mentorship with the hospital to help the student commit to a specialized track (cardiac/vascular or general/vascular) by the start of the second year.
- Attainment of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license (at the student’s own expense). If possible, it is highly beneficial to the student to complete this requirement before starting at Carroll University.
- Completion of 500 minimum hours of direct patient care experience as a CNA, verified by the employer by the time of matriculation to the hospital (250 of the total hours must be completed by January 31 of the student’s second year). CNA course hours do not count towards the direct patient care hour total.
- Attendance at a mandatory information session.
- Submission of signed Safety & Technical Standards and Progression Standards Form.
- Completed health screening, updated immunizations and tuberculosis screening, background investigation and drug screening prior to beginning the professional phase of the program.*
- Clinical students are required to maintain health insurance coverage, at their own expense, for the duration of the program and must be in good health and free from communicable diseases and be able to carry out the functions of the profession as specified in the Safety and Technical Standards. Verification of health insurance coverage is due on or before May 1, the summer before matriculating to the hospital partner in the fall, otherwise the student forfeits their seat in the hospital program.
- Students transitioning into the clinical phase of the program must adhere to all policies and maintain all progression standards outlined and provided by both Carroll University and the cooperating hospital partner. All progression standards and grading criteria are at the discretion of the partnering hospital. A copy of these standards and program policies will be provided to each student by the hospital partner at the time of matriculation into the professional phase. Admission and progression standards are subject to change based on regulatory, licensing and/or certification needs. Admission into and continued enrollment in the programs’ independent School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography is conditioned upon each student’s appropriate residency or visa status, compliance with applicable laws and the programs’ policies, procedures, progression standards and guidelines.
Competitive Admission Option - Students who enroll at Carroll, not having been admitted to the program through direct admission, can apply to the professional phase of the DMS program.
Entry into the Aurora Health Care or the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics professional phase is highly competitive and dependent upon the completion of multiple requirements. The acceptance of students into the professional phase of the program is determined solely by the admissions committee at each hospital’s independent School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the hospital phase and there are typically more applicants that seats available in the program. It is recommended that students enrolled in this program have a parallel plan in the event clinical phase admission is not attained.
Competitive Admission Requirements - Students interested in applying to the professional phase of the program must satisfy specific requirements. As admission and progression standards are subject to change, students should refer to the Admissions section of their applicable Carroll University Academic Catalog for specific details and work closely with the Health & Medical Sciences Advisor. Admission criteria will include both academic and non-academic factors related to the following areas:
- Fulfillment of Carroll University general education and graduation requirements completed by the start of the hospital program. ANP140 and ANRS236 must be completed or in progress by the spring term of the second year.
- Submission of official transcripts from all colleges attended directly to their hospital program prior to matriculation. Transfer courses without a posted transcript grade will not be accepted as complete. Applicable AP credit for required courses will be considered.
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0 in general pre-requisite courses, 3.0 in science-specific pre-requisite courses, and 2.5 in physics pre-requisite course.
- A grade of C or better in general pre-requisite courses and science-specific pre-requisite courses, and a grade of BC or better in the physics pre-requisite course.
- Pre-requisite courses may only be repeated once. Grades for multiple course attempts will be averaged. The hospital may choose to consider the most recent grades as a representation of the students’ academic ability if prior course attempts are greater than three years old.
- A documented job shadowing experience of a minimum of eight hours (four hours in cardiography and four hours in general sonography).
- Attainment of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license (at the student’s own expense). If possible, it is highly beneficial to the student to complete this requirement before starting at Carroll University.
- Completion of 100 minimum hours of direct patient care experience as a CNA, verified by the employer by December 31 of the application year. Students are encouraged to complete 750 or more CNA hours for a more competitive application. CNA course hours do not count towards the direct patient care hour total.
- Attendance at a mandatory information session.
- Submission of a signed Safety & Technical Standards and Progression Standards Form.
- Completed health screening, updated immunizations and tuberculosis screening, background investigation and drug screening prior to beginning the professional phase of the program.*
- An autobiographical statement outlining the applicant’s desire to become a sonographer and attend that specific hospital’s program.
- Submission of a non-refundable application fee to each applicable hospital program.
Competitive Admission Timeline and Additional Requirements
- There is one application cycle for the professional program each year. Students apply in the fall semester, typically sophomore year or once all requirements are completed.
- Students work closely with the Health and Medical Sciences Advisor to submit a complete application file by November 15 which is reviewed by the School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Admissions Committee at each hospital.
- Qualified students will be contacted for a personal interview in the spring term after applying. ANP 140 and NRS 236 must be completed or in progress at the time of interviews. All other courses must be completed by the start of the hospital program.
- Accepted students will be notified by the partnering hospital by the end of the spring semester. Acceptance offers are contingent upon the successful completion of all minimum requirements prior to the start of the professional phase.
- Accepted students are required to have completed a health screening, updated immunizations and tuberculosis screening according to current Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for health professionals, background investigation and drug screening prior to beginning the professional phase of the program.*
- Accepted students begin the two-year professional phase with their hospital partner in the fall (a year after first submitting their application). Clinical students are required to maintain health insurance coverage, at their own expense, for the duration of the program and must be in good health and free from communicable diseases and be able to carry out the functions of the profession as specified in the Safety and Technical Standards. Verification of health insurance coverage is due on or before May 1, the summer before matriculating to the hospital partner in the fall, otherwise the student forfeits their seat in the hospital program.
- Accepted students transitioning into the clinical phase of the program must adhere to all policies and maintain all progression standards outlined and provided by both Carroll University and the cooperating hospital partner. - Upon successful completion of the professional program, students earn a certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and a Carroll University Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences with an emphasis in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
*As part of a comprehensive health science education curriculum, students participate in various clinical education or experiential learning experiences. Carroll-operated health and wellness clinics require standard vaccinations, for students in training. These requirements are consistent with regional healthcare providers and are subject to an approved medical/religious exemption. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Admission
The BSN program admits qualified students regardless of race, color, creed, sex, age, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin or handicap that does not interfere with the performance of professional nursing as provided by law. Students can enter the BSN program in one of two ways:
Direct Admission - Individuals matriculate directly from high school into the BSN program with successful completion of the following:
- One year of high school Algebra II, Biology and Chemistry (grade C- or better) plus:
- 3.0 or higher GPA
- 2.75 or higher GPA and ACT of 21 or higher
- 2.75 - 2.99 GPA and statement addressing:
- Motivation for Nursing
- How you have prepared for the academic rigor of a Nursing program
- Applicants who have English as a Second Language are required to take the TOEFL and achieve a minimum score of 79, unless satisfactory SAT/ACT scores are available.
- Submission of the Technical Standards for Admission to and Progression in the BSN Program upon acceptance to program.*
- In some instances, applicant files are referred to a Selection Committee for review and action. That body may grant admission provided certain conditions are met or may require the student to satisfy specified criteria.
- Admission and progression standards are subject to change based on regulatory, licensing and/or certification needs.
Competitive Admission - Students who apply to or enroll at Carroll, not having been admitted to the BSN program through direct admission, including pre-nursing, change of major and transfer student applicants, may be eligible for admission upon satisfaction of the following criteria:
- A cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher in college coursework.
- A minimum course grade of BC is required in ANP 130 or ANP 140 and CHE 101 or CHE 113 . If CHE101 is completed, CHE113 will be required to satisfy the BSN support course requirement.
- A minimum course grade of BC is required in all nursing and science coursework eligible for direct equivalency credit.
- Science coursework more than five years old may be required to be repeated prior to application.
- A written statement to address: 1) Motivation for Nursing and 2) How have you prepared for the academic rigor of a nursing program? Students reapplying to the BSN program should include a success plan.
- Submission of the Technical Standards for Admission to and Progression in the BSN Program upon acceptance to program.*
- Admission and progression standards are subject to change based on regulatory, licensing and/or certification needs.
Transfer students seeking admission to the BSN program will submit the Carroll Application or Common Application and the required admission documents. Applicants enrolled in a nursing program at another institution must be eligible to return in good standing (be free of academic or disciplinary probation). Current students will apply using an internal application available from CU Central - Advising.
Carroll students not admitted to the BSN program are encouraged to seek assistance through CU Central - Advising.

Associate Degree in Nursing Admission
The ADN program will admit qualified students regardless of race, color, creed, sex, age, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, or handicap that does not interfere with the performance of professional nursing as provided by law. The admission process for the ADN program is holistic in nature. This means that no single criterion will ensure or prevent acceptance into the program. Rather, a Selection Committee decides on a candidate’s admission based on holistic consideration of the following criteria:
- Two semesters of high school Algebra I, Biology, and Chemistry; one semester of high school social sciences (communications, economics, history, sociology) with grades C- or better.
- High school and/or college GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- If ANP 130 , ANP 140 , BIO 212 or CHE 113 equivalencies are completed within 5 years of application, transfer credit may be awarded provided grades of B- or better are earned.
- Preference given to applicants who can speak conversational Spanish as well as English.
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen with a valid social security number.
- Two letters of reference (one from a teacher; another from a teacher, work supervisor or community leader).
- Admission essay focusing on experience with cultural immersion and addressing motivation for nursing and desire to work with culturally diverse populations.
- Interview with Admission Committee
- Submission of the Technical and Progression Standards for the ADN Program (upon acceptance to program)*

The Carroll University Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) program admits qualified students regardless of race, color, creed, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, national or ethnic origin or disability that does not interfere with the performance of professional neurodiagnostic technology practice as provided by law. Admission and progression standards are subject to change based on regulatory licensing, and/or certification needs.
The NDT program is comprised of four total years of study. Students can enter the NDT program in one of two ways: direct admission or competitive admission.
Direct Admission Option - Direct admission entry provides select incoming, full-time, first-time freshmen matriculating directly out of high school an opportunity to enter directly into the pre-professional phase of the program and receive a guaranteed hospital seat, provided progression standards and cohort requirements are met.
The following are requirements to be considered for NDT direct admission (high school courses must be from an accredited secondary school with grades of “C” or higher):
- Three years of mathematics
- One year of biology
- One year of chemistry
- Recommended: one or more years of high school physics
- High school GPA of 2.75
To apply for direct admission:
- Apply to Carroll University
- List Neurodiagnostic Technology as your first-choice program.
- Select “Yes” that you would like to be considered for Direct Admission.
- Submit the following items to complete the application process:
- High school transcripts through the sixth semester
- Senior class schedule (recommended)
Carroll University NDT Direct Admission Committee reviews criteria and supplemental materials on a rolling basis.
Those accepted for NDT direct admission must sign, submit and meet program Safety & Technical Standards and Progression Standards.
By accepting a direct admission offer, students are committing to enroll in that specific hospital’s program. If choosing to apply as a competitive admission candidate to another hospital partner’s program, the student agrees to forfeit their initial direct admission seat.
Continued Direct Admission Requirements - To proceed into the professional phase of the NDT program, students must satisfy specific requirements by September 15 of their second year. As admission and progression standards are subject to change, students should refer to the Admissions section of their applicable Carroll University Academic Catalog for specific details and work closely with the Health & Medical Sciences Advisor. Admission criteria will include both academic and non-academic factors related to the following areas:
- Fulfillment of Carroll University general education and graduation requirements completed by the start of the hospital program. ANP 130 , ANP 140 and PHY 101 must be completed by the end of the fall semester in the second year.
- Submission of official transcripts from all colleges attended directly to their hospital program prior to matriculation. Transfer courses without a posted transcript grade will not be accepted as complete. Applicable AP credit for required courses will be considered.
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0 overall and in pre-requisite courses.
- A grade of C or higher in all pre-requisite courses.
- Pre-requisite courses may only be repeated once. Being placed on academic probation will disqualify students from continuing in the NDT program.
- A documented job shadowing experience of a minimum of four hours in neurodiagnostic technology.
- Completion of direct patient care experience (either paid or volunteer hours) as a CNA, Clinical Imaging Assistant, Transporter, Medical Assistant, or other approved allied health professional (see Health and Medical Sciences Advisor for details) verified by employer by September 15 of the application year. CNA course hours do not count. Licensure or registry requirements may apply.
- Attendance at and participation in hospital-sponsored mentorship events and activities.
- Submission of signed Safety & Technical Standards and Progression Standards Form.
- Completed health screening, updated immunizations and tuberculosis screening, background investigation and drug screening prior to beginning the professional phase of the program.*
- Clinical students are required to maintain health insurance coverage, at their own expense, for the duration of the program and must be in good health and free from communicable diseases and be able to carry out the functions of the profession as specified in the Safety and Technical Standards. Verification of health insurance coverage is due on or before May 1, the summer before matriculating to the hospital partner in the fall, otherwise the student forfeits their seat in the hospital program.
- Students transitioning into the clinical phase of the program must adhere to all policies and maintain all progression standards outlined and provided by both Carroll University and the cooperating hospital partner. All progression standards and grading criteria are at the discretion of the partnering hospital. A copy of these standards and program policies will be provided to each student by the hospital partner at the time of matriculation into the professional phase. Admission and progression standards are subject to change based on regulatory, licensing and/or certification needs. Admission into and continued enrollment in the programs’ independent School of Neurodiagnostic Technology is conditioned upon each student’s appropriate residency or visa status, compliance with applicable laws and the programs’ policies, procedures, progression standards and guidelines.
Competitive Admission Option - Students who enroll at Carroll, not having been admitted to the program through direct admission, can apply to the professional phase of the NDT program.
Entry into the Aurora Health Care professional phase is competitive and dependent upon the completion of multiple requirements. The acceptance of students into the professional phase of the program is determined solely by the admissions committee at the hospital’s independent School of Neurodiagnostic Technology. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the hospital phase. It is recommended that students enrolled in this program have a parallel plan in the event clinical phase admission is not attained.
Competitive Admission Requirements - Students interested in applying to the professional phase of the program must satisfy specific requirements. As admission and progression standards are subject to change, students should refer to the Admissions section of their applicable Carroll University Academic Catalog for specific details and work closely with the Health & Medical Sciences Advisor. - A documented job shadowing experience of a minimum of four hours in neurodiagnostic technology.
- Completion of direct patient care experience (either paid or volunteer hours) as a CNA, Clinical Imaging Assistant, Transporter, Medical Assistant, or other approved allied health professional (see Health and Medical Sciences Advisor for details) verified by employer by September 15 of the application year. CNA course hours do not count. Licensure or registry requirements may apply.
- Attendance at a mandatory information session.
- Submission of a signed Safety & Technical Standards and Progression Standards form.
- Completed health screening, updated immunizations and tuberculosis screening, background investigation and drug screening prior to beginning the professional phase of the program.
- An autobiographical statement outlining the applicant’s desire to become a neurodiagnostic technologist and attend that specific hospital’s program.
Competitive Admission Timeline and Additional Requirements
- There is one application cycle for the professional program each year. Students apply in the fall semester, typically sophomore year or once all requirements are completed.
- Students work closely with the Health and Medical Sciences Advisor to submit a complete application file by September 15 which is reviewed by the School of Neurodiagnostic Technology Admissions Committee at the hospital.
- Accepted students will be notified by the partnering hospital by the end of the fall semester. ANP 130 , ANP 140 and PHY 101 must be completed by the end of the fall semester in the second year. Acceptance offers are contingent upon the successful completion of all minimum requirements prior to the start of the professional phase.
- Accepted students are required to have completed a health screening, updated immunizations and tuberculosis screening according to current Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for health professionals, background investigation and drug screening prior to beginning the professional phase of the program.*
- Accepted students begin the two-year professional phase with their hospital partner in the fall (a year after first submitting their application). Clinical students are required to maintain health insurance coverage, at their own expense, for the duration of the program and must be in good health and free from communicable diseases and be able to carry out the functions of the profession as specified in the Safety and Technical Standards. Verification of health insurance coverage is due on or before May 1, the summer before matriculating to the hospital partner in the fall, otherwise the student forfeits their seat in the hospital program.

- Upon successful completion of the professional program, students earn a Carroll University Bachelor of Science degree in Neurodiagnostic Technology and are prepared to sit for national certification through the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET).

Carroll-operated health and wellness clinics require standard vaccinations, for students in training. These requirements are consistent with regional healthcare providers and are subject to an approved medical/religious exemption. Pre-Master of Science of Athletic Training Program Admission
The Master of Science of Athletic Training program admits qualified students regardless of race, color, gender, creed, age, sexual orientation, marital status, national or ethnic origin or disability that does not interfere with the performance of professional athletic training practice as provided by law.
Applications and credentials for admission to the Master of Science of Athletic Training program must be submitted for processing to the Carroll University Office of Graduate Admission. Applicants must be in good standing (be free of academic and or disciplinary probation) at all institutions previously attended. Decisions on applications are made by a selection committee comprised of the athletic training faculty members. Applicants are notified of their status through the Office of Graduate Admission.
Students who meet the admission and prerequisite criteria are granted admission to the Master of Science of Athletic Training (MSAT) program. Students must also fulfill technical standards and caregiver background and criminal history check to be admitted to the MSAT program.*
Students who fail to meet the admission criteria, who fail to meet technical standards requirements, or who do not pass the caregiver and background criminal history check can be denied admittance to the MSAT program.
Students can enter the MSAT program in one of the following ways:
Path 1 - Prior Degree
An individual who has completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at another institution or at Carroll may apply for the Master of Science of Athletic Training program. To be considered for admission, applicants must meet GPA requirements as well as successful completion of required MSAT prerequisite courses.
Path 2: Direct Admission
Incoming Carroll University first year students seeking a Carroll bachelor’s degree may apply for direct admission to the 3+2 graduate completion program through the Carroll Office of Admission. To be considered for direct admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- 2.75 weighted high school GPA
- 1 year of high school Biology with a grade of “C” or better
- 1 year of high school Chemistry with a grade of “C” or better
- 3 years of high school math with a grade of “C” or better
- 1 year of high school Physics is recommended, but not required
- ACT or SAT scores are not required to obtain Direct Admission status
Carroll University students with direct admission status must satisfy all MSAT program prerequisite requirements by the end of spring semester of their junior year in order to advance into year one of the graduate MSAT program in their senior year.
Path 3: Competitive Admission
Current Carroll University undergraduate students seeking a Carroll bachelor’s degree in an approved discipline may apply for admission to the 3+2 completion program through the Carroll Office of Admission. To be considered for admission, applicants must meet GPA requirements as well as successful completion of required MSAT prerequisite courses.
Minimum requirements for all applicants:
- A cumulative and prerequisite GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended for admission.
- Students entering the MSAT program through the 3+2 Direct Admission process are guaranteed transition to the MSAT professional program if they earn both a 3.0 cumulative and a 3.0 prerequisite GPA and complete all enrollment criteria noted below.
- Students with a cumulative and pre-professional GPA of 2.75-2.99 will be considered for admission.

- Anatomy and Physiology I and II with labs OR General Biology I and II with labs (Carroll ANP 130 /ANP 140 or BIO 120 /BIO 125 )
- Chemistry I and II with labs (Carroll CHE 101 /CHE 102 or CHE 109 /CHE 110 )
- General Physics I and II with labs (Carroll PHY 101 /PHY 102 or PHY 203 /PHY 204 )

Pre-Exercise Physiology Graduate Program Admission
The Pre-Exercise Physiology Program admits qualified students regardless of race, color, creed, gender, age, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, or disability that does not interfere with the performance of professional practice as provided by law. The Master of Science in Exercise Physiology Program has a clinical focus.
Students can enter the Exercise Physiology Program in one of three ways:
- Prior Degree - An individual who has completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at another institution, or Carroll, can apply for the Exercise Physiology program.
- 3 + 2 Completion - Current Carroll University undergraduate student seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science who intends to follow the 3 + 2 completion plan. The applicant generally is of junior standing when applying to the program. Students must satisfy all MEXP admission requirements, prerequisite coursework, major and general education requirements by the end of the junior year of undergraduate study in order to advance into year one of the MEXP program during their senior year. The 3 +2 completion plan requires the first three years of study to be completed at the undergraduate level of study with a major in exercise science (with verification through a degree audit that 128 total credits will be earned upon completion of year one of the graduate program). The final two years consists of graduate level study in the Exercise Physiology Program. Upon completion of the first year of the Exercise Physiology Program, a Carroll University Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science is awarded, and upon successful completion of all graduate credits (58 total credits), the Exercise Physiology degree is awarded.
- Direct Admission (freshman or sophomore level of entry) - Current freshman and sophomore Carroll University undergraduate students seeking a Carroll bachelor’s degree may apply for direct admission consideration through the Carroll Office of Admission. To be considered for direct admission, applicants must complete two semesters of Anatomy & Physiology with a lab (equivalent to Carroll’s ANP 130 & ANP 140 ) and apply by May 1st of the spring semester of the freshman and/or sophomore year. Students must satisfy all MEXP admission requirements, prerequisite coursework, major and general education requirements by the end of the junior year of undergraduate study in order to advance into year one of the MEXP program during their senior year. Candidates who are granted direct admission must meet the direct admission progression requirements listed in the graduate catalog.
Applications and credentials for admission to the Exercise Physiology Program must be submitted for processing to the Carroll University Office of Admission. As decisions are made on applications, applicants are notified through the Office of Admission. Applicants must be eligible to return in good standing (be free of academic or disciplinary probation) to all institutions previously attended.

Pre-Master of Occupational Therapy Graduate Program Admission
Carroll University offers two admission options:
1. Direct Admission - Direct admission provides select incoming first-time freshmen matriculating directly out of high school an opportunity to enter directly into the graduate phase of the program and receive a guaranteed MOT seat, provided progression standards and cohort requirements are met as outlined in the Carroll University catalog. The MOT program comprises six total years of study for students who are directly admitted (freshman level of entry) with any major.
2. Competitive Admission - Competitive admission is for individuals with an undergraduate degree at an institution outside of Carroll or current Carroll undergraduate students who do not have direct admission status. Competitive Admission applicants are required to apply through the Occupational Therapist Centralized Application Service (OTCAS).

Direct Admission Application Requirements - High School-level Admission
All majors and minors are invited to apply for direct admission. Students are encouraged to pursue degree options that support their interests. Direct admission students earn their undergraduate degree, then earn a Master of Occupational Therapy.
Recommended High School Coursework (grade of ‘C’ or better):
- One or more years of high school biology
- One or more years of high school chemistry
- Three or more years of mathematics
- Additional rigor, including physics, anatomy and physiology, AP or IB courses, dual enrollment, or other college-level coursework
To be considered for direct admission:
- Apply to Carroll University
- List Occupational Therapy as your intended program on the application.
- Submit the following items to complete the application process:
- High school transcripts through the sixth semester
- Senior class schedule (recommended)
- Indicate Early Action or Regular Decision on your application
Evaluations for early action candidates will begin in November, with offers being made monthly or until seats are filled with final offers made in February. Evaluations for regular decision candidates will begin in March, as space permits. We do not guarantee review of regular decision candidates.
Those accepted for occupational therapy direct admission must submit and meet program Safety and Technical Standards. Students with direct admission must meet all MOT progression standards at the time of application to the graduate level and earn their undergraduate degree prior to beginning the MOT program mid-May.
Graduate Level Progression Requirements - Direct Admission Students
Carroll University students with direct admission status must satisfy all MOT program prerequisite requirements and earn their bachelor’s degree prior to advancing into year one of the graduate program.

- 20 hours of shadowing
- 1 Letter of Recommendation from an instructor or an Occupational Therapist

The entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy Program admits qualified students regardless of race, color, creed, gender, age, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, or disability that does not interfere with the performance of professional physical therapy practice as provided by law. Applications and credentials for admission to the physical therapy program must be submitted for processing to the Carroll University Office of Admission. As decisions are made on applications, applicants are notified through the Office of Admission. Students can enter the physical therapy program in one of three ways: direct admission, competitive admission, or prior degree admission.
Direct Admission Option - Individuals with direct admission status matriculate directly from high school into the pre-professional phase of the program. The pre-professional phase includes the Freshman, Sophomore and Junior years at the University and follow the 3+3 cohort. If a student with direct admission status meets all progression standards after his or her junior year at the University, he or she transitions into year one of the professional phase of the DPT Program during their senior year. This option allows students to earn an undergraduate bachelor’s degree after year one of the DPT program as well as the entry-level DPT degree after year six.
Direct admission selection decisions will be based on evaluation of:
- Carroll University general admission undergraduate application.
- Carroll University Physical Therapy Direct Admission Committee review:
- Physical Therapy Early Decision Admission Option
- Physical Therapy Regular Decision Admission Option
- Those accepted for physical therapy direct admission must submit and meet program Safety and Technical Standards.
- Transcript from an accredited secondary school which shows six semesters of coursework. It is recommended that a senior course schedule is included with general application materials. In addition, the following high school courses are strongly recommended, with grades of “C” or better:
- One or more years of high school biology
- One or more years of high school chemistry
- Two or more years of high school foreign language
- Three or more years of mathematics
- One year of physics

During their freshman, sophomore and junior years at the University, students with direct admission status pursue their undergraduate degrees in existing Carroll majors which have a pre-physical therapy emphasis. Approved 3+3 cohort majors are biology, business administration, communication, exercise science, health care administration, history, psychology, public health, sociology and Spanish. The undergraduate degree for students in the 3+3 cohort is completed the senior year while enrolled in the first year (Year I) of the professional phase of the Physical Therapy Program.
Pre-physical therapy students with direct admission status must satisfy all of the following progression requirements by the end of spring semester junior year at the University to advance into Year I of the professional phase of the program in their senior year:
- A university cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the time of application for progression, which includes fall semester grades of the junior year and prior to progressing into Year I of the professional phase.
- A pre-professional course grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the time of application for progression, which includes fall semester grades of the junior and prior to progressing into Year I of the professional phase. Pre-professional courses include:
- 2 semesters anatomy and physiology with labs or 2 general biology with labs (equivalent to Carroll’s: ANP 130 and ANP 140 or BIO 120 and BIO 125 )
- 2 semesters of Chemistry, either CHE 101 /CHE 102 or CHE 109 /CHE 110 or CHE 203 /CHE 204
- 2 semesters of Physics, either PHY 101 /PHY 102 or PHY 203 /PHY 204
- 1 semester of Psychology, either PSY 101 or higher. In addition, one upper-level psychology course (200-level or above) may be included in the GPA calculation. Eligible courses may be taken within the Psychology Department or from related disciplines, including but not limited to Psychology of Sport/Exercise, Educational Psychology, Rehabilitation Psychology, or Sports Psychology.
- A minimum course grade of “C” is required in all course work used to calculate the pre-professional GPA.
- A maximum of one course within the pre-professional course work (i.e., biology, chemistry, physics, and psychology disciplines) may be repeated and used in the pre-professional GPA calculation. Any Carroll undergraduate credit with an earned C, D, or F grade can be retaken at Carroll and will be used in the GPA calculation(s).
- Successful completion of the following by the end of spring semester junior year (3+3 cohort). All items under 1, 2, and 3 below are due by mid-December junior year:
- Carroll University Graduate Studies On-line Application for admission to progress into Year I of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Professional Phase.
- Supplemental Application Materials, which include:
- Clinical Experience Documentation form(s): Participation in a minimum of two clinical observation experiences from two different types of physical therapy practice settings which include inpatient acute care, inpatient rehab/sub-acute rehab facility, nursing home facility/extended care, outpatient free-standing PT or hospital clinic, school/pre-school, industrial/occupational health, or home health. A Clinical Experience Documentation form must be submitted to the admission office and experiences must be completed under licensed physical therapists. Two different practice settings with a minimum of 16 total hours is required.

CPR certification will be required by the third semester of the Program. The Program will offer CPR training options in the second or third semester of the DPT program.
Some students may choose to become or have been certified before they enter the Program. The following are CPR certification guidelines if students choose to complete CPR before entrance into the Program:

The CPR certification must be through the American Heart Association. Certifications must include CPR and AED for adults and pediatrics, including 2-person rescuer and bag valve mask. Courses must include completing in-person skills checks. Approved course: American Heart Association BLS for the HealthCare Provider. Students are responsible for maintaining currency in certifications throughout the Program.
- Physical therapy professional phase students are required to have completed a health screening, updated immunizations and tuberculosis screening according to current Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for health professionals, criminal background investigation and drug screening as required by internship placement sites. Exceptions to the immunization requirements will be considered on a case-by-case basis where, for example, a student has an allergy to a vaccine or one of its components. If an exception to the immunization requirements is approved, the University cannot guarantee that its affiliated hospitals and clinics will allow the student to participate in patient care, which is a fundamental requirement of the clinical education component of the Program.
- All bachelor degree requirements must be completed by the end of Year I of the professional phase of the DPT program.
- Admission and progression standards are subject to change based on regulatory, licensing, and/or certification needs.
If, for any reason, a direct admit student does not advance into or withdraws from the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, career services and counseling through the Career Center and Advising Office is available. Any direct admit student who withdraws from the program during his/her freshman, sophomore or junior year must inform the program director in writing and complete a new major, minor declaration form in the Registrar Office.
Competitive Admission Option - Students not selected for direct admission will follow the competitive admission process. Examples of competitive admission candidates include: high school students not selected for direct admission, undergraduate transfer students, Carroll alumni, and direct admission students who apply outside of their approved cohort year. Applicants who complete 60 or more undergraduate degree credits and will earn a bachelor’s degree from Carroll receive a calculated preference in consideration for the professional phase of the program. Competitive admission students may apply to the professional phase of the DPT program during their junior year at Carroll and reference the below admission criteria. Competitive Admission applicants who apply after their junior year at Carroll must reference the current graduate catalog for admission requirements.
Competitive Admission applicants who apply in their junior year at Carroll must comply with and meet the following requirements for admission into Year I of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, which include:
- A university cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the time of application, which includes fall semester grades of the junior year, and prior to matriculating into the professional phase.
- A pre-professional course grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the time of application, which includes fall semester grades of the junior year, and prior to matriculating into the professional phase. Pre-professional courses include:
- A minimum course grade of “C” is required in all course work used to calculate the pre-professional GPA.
- A maximum of one course within the pre-professional, prerequisite coursework (i.e., biology, chemistry, physics, and psychology) may be repeated and used in the pre-professional GPA calculation. Any Carroll undergraduate credit with an earned C, D, or F grade can be retaken at Carroll and will be used in the GPA calculation(s).
- Successful completion of the following prior to the start of Year I of the professional phase of the program. All items under 1, 2, and 3 below are due by mid-January junior year:
- Carroll University Graduate Studies On-line Application for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Professional Phase.
- Supplemental Application Materials, which include:
- Clinical Experience Documentation form(s): Participation in a minimum of two clinical observation experiences from two different types of physical therapy practice settings which include inpatient acute care, inpatient rehab/sub-acute rehab facility, nursing home facility/extended care, outpatient free-standing PT or hospital clinic, school/pre-school, industrial/occupational health, or home health. A Clinical Experience Documentation form must be submitted to the admission office and experiences must be completed under licensed physical therapists. Prior Degree Option: An individual who has completed an undergraduate degree at another institution may apply for admission to the professional phase of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Prior-degree applicants are reviewed in a competitive pool consisting of competitive admission and prior-degree applicants. Please refer to the graduate catalog for the prior degree student requirements for admission. Please be advised that applicants completing a bachelor’s degree and 60 or more undergraduate credits at Carroll University receive a calculated preference in consideration for admission to the DPT Program.
*As part of a comprehensive health science education curriculum, students participate in various clinical education or experiential learning experiences. Carroll-operated health and wellness clinics require standard vaccinations, for students in training. These requirements are consistent with regional healthcare providers and are subject to an approved medical/religious exemption. Currently, the Covid-19 vaccine is not required in Carroll-operated health and wellness clinics. Similarly, students placed in external healthcare sites will likely have these same or unique requirements. Students must comply with host site vaccination policies, most of which follow CDC Healthcare Provider recommendations, these may include the Covid-19 vaccine. Individual sites may have their own exemption processes for vaccination, defer exemption screening to the University, or may not include an exemption option. Radiologic Technology Program Admission
The Carroll University Radiologic Technology (RT) program admits qualified students regardless of race, color, creed, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, national or ethnic origin or disability that does not interfere with the performance of professional radiography practice as provided by law. Admission and progression standards are subject to change based on regulatory licensing, and/or certification needs.
The RT program is comprised of four total years of study and requires students to attend class year-round. Courses completed in summer or winter terms will incur additional tuition fees (refer to the catalog for current tuition rates). Students can enter the RT program in one of two ways: direct admission or competitive admission.
Direct Admission Option - Direct admission entry provides select incoming, full-time, first-time freshmen matriculating directly out of high school an opportunity to enter directly into the pre-professional phase of the program and receive a guaranteed hospital seat, provided progression standards and cohort requirements are met.
The following are requirements to be considered for RT direct admission (high school courses must be from an accredited secondary school with grades of “C” or higher):
- Three years of mathematics
- One year of biology
- One year of chemistry or physics
- High school GPA of 3.0
- Additional rigor, including physics, anatomy and physiology, AP or IB courses, dual enrollment or other college-level coursework may be considered
- Submission of essay
To apply for direct admission:
- Apply to Carroll University
- List Health Sciences - Radiologic Technology as your first-choice program.
- Select “Yes” that you would like to be considered for Direct Admission.
- Indicate Early Action (EA) or Regular Decision (RD) on your application.
- Submit the following items to complete the application process:
- High school transcripts through the sixth semester
- Senior class schedule (recommended)
Evaluations for early action candidates will begin in February with offers being made until seats are filled through April 1. Evaluations for regular decision candidates will begin in April, as space permits. We do not guarantee review of regular decision candidates.
Those accepted for RT direct admission must sign, submit and meet program Safety & Technical Standards and Progression Standards.
By accepting a direct admission offer, students are committing to enroll in that specific hospital’s program. If choosing to apply as a competitive admission candidate to another hospital partner’s program, the student agrees to forfeit their initial direct admission seat.
Continued Direct Admission Requirements - To proceed into the professional phase of the RT program, students must satisfy specific requirements by November 15 of their second year. As admission and progression standards are subject to change, students should refer to the Admissions section of their applicable Carroll University Academic Catalog for specific details and work closely with the Health & Medical Sciences Advisor. Admission criteria will include both academic and non-academic factors related to the following areas:
- Fulfillment of Carroll University general education and graduation requirements completed by the start of the hospital program. ANP 130, ANP 140 and PHY 101 must be completed by the end of the fall semester in the second year.
- Submission of official transcripts from all colleges attended directly to their hospital program prior to matriculation. Transfer courses without a posted transcript grade will not be accepted as complete. Applicable AP credit for required courses will be considered.
- Minimum grade point average of 2.5 overall and in pre-requisite courses.
- A grade of C or higher in all pre-requisite courses.
- Pre-requisite courses may only be repeated once. Grades for multiple course attempts will be averaged.
- A documented job shadowing experience of a minimum of four hours in radiography.
- Completion of direct patient care experience (either paid or volunteer hours) as a CNA, Clinical Imaging Assistant, Transporter, Medical Assistant, or other approved allied health professional (see Health and Medical Sciences Advisor for details) verified by employer by December 31 of the application year. CNA course hours do not count. Licensure or registry requirements may apply.
- Attendance at and participation in hospital-sponsored mentorship events and activities.
- Submission of signed Safety & Technical Standards and Progression Standards Form.
- Completed health screening, updated immunizations and tuberculosis screening, background investigation and drug screening prior to beginning the professional phase of the program.*
- Clinical students are required to maintain health insurance coverage, at their own expense, for the duration of the program and must be in good health and free from communicable diseases and be able to carry out the functions of the profession as specified in the Safety and Technical Standards. Verification of health insurance coverage is due on or before May 1, the summer before matriculating to the hospital partner in the fall, otherwise the student forfeits their seat in the hospital program.
- Students transitioning into the clinical phase of the program must adhere to all policies and maintain all progression standards outlined and provided by both Carroll University and the cooperating hospital partner. All progression standards and grading criteria are at the discretion of the partnering hospital. A copy of these standards and program policies will be provided to each student by the hospital partner at the time of matriculation into the professional phase. Admission and progression standards are subject to change based on regulatory, licensing and/or certification needs. Admission into and continued enrollment in the programs’ independent School of Radiologic Technology is conditioned upon each student’s appropriate residency or visa status, compliance with applicable laws and the programs’ policies, procedures, progression standards and guidelines.
Competitive Admission Option - Students who enroll at Carroll, not having been admitted to the program through direct admission, can apply to the professional phase of the RT program.
Entry into the Ascension-St. Joseph, Aurora Health Care, or Froedtert Hospital professional phase is highly competitive and dependent upon the completion of multiple requirements. The acceptance of students into the professional phase of the program is determined solely by the admissions committee at each hospital’s independent School of Radiologic Technology. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the hospital phase and there are typically more applicants that seats available in the program. It is recommended that students enrolled in this program have a parallel plan in the event clinical phase admission is not attained.
Competitive Admission Requirements - Students interested in applying to the professional phase of the program must satisfy specific requirements. As admission and progression standards are subject to change, students should refer to the Admissions section of their applicable Carroll University Academic Catalog for specific details and work closely with the Health & Medical Sciences Advisor. Admission criteria will include both academic and non-academic factors related to the following areas:
- Fulfillment of Carroll University general education and graduation requirements completed by the start of the hospital program. ANP 130 , ANP 140 and PHY 101 must be completed by the end of the fall semester in the second year.
- Submission of official transcripts from all colleges attended directly to their hospital program prior to matriculation. Transfer courses without a posted transcript grade will not be accepted as complete. Applicable AP credit for required courses will be considered.

- Completion of direct patient care experience (either paid or volunteer hours) as a CNA, Clinical Imaging Assistant, Transporter, Medical Assistant, or other approved allied health professional (see Health and Medical Sciences Advisor for details) verified by employer by December 31 of the application year. CNA course hours do not count. Licensure or registry requirements may apply. While additional consideration is given for healthcare experience, work experience in customer service/communication is also valued.
- Three professional letters of recommendation dated within six months of the application deadline.
- Attendance at a mandatory information session.
- Submission of a signed Safety & Technical Standards and Progression Standards form.
- Completed health screening, updated immunizations and tuberculosis screening, background investigation and drug screening prior to beginning the professional phase of the program.*
- An autobiographical statement outlining the applicant’s desire to become a radiographer and attend that specific hospital’s program.
- Submission of a non-refundable application fee to each applicable hospital program.
Competitive Admission Timeline and Additional Requirements
- There is one application cycle for the professional program each year. Students apply in the fall semester, typically sophomore year or once all requirements are completed.
- Students work closely with the Health and Medical Sciences Advisor to submit a complete application file by November 15 which is reviewed by the School of Radiologic Technology Admissions Committee at each hospital.
- Qualified students will be contacted for a personal interview in the spring term after applying. ANP 130 , ANP 140 and PHY 101 must be completed by the end of the fall semester in the second year. All other courses must be completed by the start of the hospital program.
- Accepted students will be notified by the partnering hospital by the end of the spring semester. Acceptance offers are contingent upon the successful completion of all minimum requirements prior to the start of the professional phase.

Air Force ROTC Information
Carroll University students have the opportunity to fully participate in the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps program. Students enrolled in the Air Force ROTC program attend AFROTC courses at Marquette University.
Through this program, Carroll University offers its students the opportunity to prepare for initial active duty assignments as Air Force Commissioned Officers. In order to receive a commission, AFROTC cadets must complete all university requirements for a degree and courses specified by the Air Force. AFROTC offers four, three, and two year programs leading to a commission as an Air Force officer. Four-year program students complete the general military course and the professional officer course, in addition to a four-week summer field training between their second and third years in the program. Two-year students complete only the professional officer course, but have a five-week summer field training before entering the professional officer course.
General qualifications:
- be a full-time student
- be a United States citizen (for scholarship appointment)
- be in good physical condition
- be of good moral character
- for pilot or navigator training, fulfill all commissioning requirements before age 26 1/2
- for scholarship recipients, fulfill commissioning requirements before age 27 on June 30 in the estimated year of commissioning
- for non-scholarship students, fulfill all commissioning requirements before age 30
General Military Course: The first-and second-year educational program in Air Force Aerospace Studies consists of a series of one-hour courses designed to give students basic information on world military systems and the role of the U.S. Air Force in the defense of the free world. All required textbooks and uniforms are provided free. The general military course is open to all students at Carroll University without advance application and does not obligate students to the Air Force in any way.
Field Training: AFROTC Field Training is offered during the summer months at selected Air Force bases throughout the U.S. and provides leadership and officer training in a structured military environment. Major areas of study include physical training, drill and ceremony, marksmanship, and survival training. The Air Force pays all expenses associated with field training.
Professional officer course: The third and fourth years of Air Force Aerospace Studies are designed to develop skills and attitudes vital to the professional officer. Students completing the professional officer course are commissioned as officers in the U.S. Air Force upon university graduation. All students in the professional officer course receive a nontaxable subsistence allowance of $200 per month during the academic year. Students wanting to enter the professional officer course should apply early in the spring semester in order to begin this course of study in the following fall semester.
Leadership Laboratory: Leadership laboratory is a cadet-centered activity. It is largely cadet planned and directed, in line with the premise that it provides leadership training experience that will improve a cadet’s ability to perform as an Air Force officer. The freshman and sophomore leadership laboratory program introduces Air Force customs and courtesies, drill and ceremonies, wearing the uniform, career opportunities in the Air Force, education and training benefits, the life and work of an Air Force officer, and opportunities for field trips to Air Force installations throughout the U.S. Initial experiences include preparing the cadet for individual squadron and flight movements in drill and ceremonies and for the field training assignment prior to the junior year.
The junior and senior leadership laboratory program involves the cadets in advanced leadership experiences. Cadet responsibilities include planning and directing the activities of the cadet corps, preparing briefings and written communications, and providing interviews, guidance, information and other services which will increase the performance and motivation of other cadets.
AFROTC College Scholarship and Scholarship Actions Programs: These programs provide scholarships to selected students participating in AFROTC. While participating in AFROTC, students receive $200 per month along with paid tuition, fees, and a fixed text-book reimbursement. To be eligible for either of these programs, students must:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be at least 17 years of age on the date of enrollment and under 27 years of age on June 30 of the estimated year of commissioning.
- Pass an Air Force physical exam.
- Be selected by a board of Air Force officers.
- Have no moral objections or personal convictions that prevent bearing arms and supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. (Applicants must not be conscientious objectors.)
- Achieve a passing score on the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test.
- Maintain a quality grade point average.
High school students can apply for scholarships late in their junior year or early in their senior year; pre-applicant questionnaires are available from high school guidance counselors or any Air Force recruiting office. Completed pre-applicant questionnaires should be mailed as soon as possible (to meet the earliest selection board) but will not be accepted if mailed after December 1 of the year before entering university. 3 + 2 and 3 + 3 Program Policy
Students accepted into and enrolled in any 3 + 2 or 3 + 3 program at Carroll University will begin professional graduate level study in the 4th year of the program or after meeting progression requirements for the individual program, whichever comes first. Once a student meets the undergraduate requirements for their program (128 credits and all Major and Pio Core requirements) will graduate from their undergraduate program and will become a graduate student, and therefore will be billed and awarded financial aid as a graduate student.
