AIN 180 - Foundations of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming many aspects of our lives, in terms of how we work, play, and function in the world around us. Advances in technologies present us with smart devices, digital assistants, unprecedented medical diagnostics, chatbots, volumes of data, self-parking and self-driving vehicles, email smart replies, smart navigation systems, and online store product recommendations. This course explores the ideas and principles at the root of modern artificial intelligence.  Its purpose is to equip students with an understanding of artificial intelligence technologies essential towards future-proofing their careers. The concepts behind intelligent agents, problem solving related search strategies, knowledge representation methods, the principles of machine learning and reasoning with uncertainty, applications of human-AI interaction, virtual reality, the role of AI in a variety of disciplines, as well as the ethical issues and concerns associated with AI, will be revealed to students through hands-on projects. Students will use Python and JavaScript with appropriate toolkits to implement applications that are interwoven throughout the course topics.
