The Theatre & Arts Management Program offers a major in Theatre, and minors in Arts Management and Theatre.

The Theatre Major is intended to prepare students for continued engagement in the theatre arts, arts management, theatre education, or graduate studies. Through traditional classroom work, participation in fully produced mainstage productions, a multifaceted student theatre season, and in-depth community partnerships, we strive to train the artist of today for the theatre of tomorrow.

Learning Outcomes for Theatre and Arts Management

Upon successful completion of major requirements students will be able to demonstrate:

1) Students will build knowledge of, and appreciation for, the dramatic arts, and will understand that Theatre is a diverse, collaborative art form with social impact.

2) Students will demonstrate practical skills in multiple areas of Theatre, including acting and performance, playwriting, directing, stage/production management and technical theatre (scenic, lighting, costume, sound and make-up design.) Students will be able to perform in at least one of these areas proficiently, and in at least two others at a developing level, by graduation.

3) Students will be able to describe, analyze, interpret and evaluate dramatic literature and theatrical productions. They will effectively use constructive, critical language as it applies to their own work and the work of others, and will be able to formulate and articulate ethical and cultural questions regarding contemporary theatrical performance and practice.

4) Students will demonstrate superior collaboration skills, including leadership, time management, creative problem-solving, effective communication and constructive critique.

5) Students will, through the fulfillment of a Senior Project, display an understanding of an entrepreneurial spirit and the practical theatrical artistic practice (conceptualization, development of concept, constructive critique, revision and public presentation/response.)

6) Students will understand marketing needs, career opportunities and professional challenges within the Theatre industry.

To fulfill the major requirements, students must take a total of 4 credits in THE 100  and/or THE 300 .

Bachelor of Arts Requirements


The requirements for a Bachelor of Arts are:

  • Students must take 2 consecutive modern language courses for a total of 6 or more credits in the same modern language (MLL) other than English; this does not include American Sign Language. Carroll University will accept a total of 6- 8 transferred credits from another college/university as long as all of those credits are completed in the same language.
  • **International students who have English as their second language should contact the Registrar concerning the Modern Language requirement.
  • 4 Hour(s) or higher
  • 4 Hour(s)
  • Degree requirements cannot be waived.
