Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming every walk of life, and its technologies are used today in medicine, science, education, government, the military, finance, security, retail, agriculture, customer service, manufacturing, entertainment and communications. Carroll offers an education in applied Artificial Intelligence that places an emphasis on mastering skills and technologies of AI, while also honing an awareness of the ethical considerations surrounding AI that you’ll need to keep pace in this quickly expanding landscape.
The major in AI will prepare students with the tools and skills necessary for careers as AI practitioners. As such, it will equip them with the skills required to incorporate AI techniques and technologies within a breadth of relevant application areas.
Learning Outcomes for Major in Artificial Intelligence:
Graduates of the AI program are able to:
- Articulate the advantages and disadvantages of AI systems.
- Articulate the successes and limitations of artificial intelligence by examining its progress and aspirations throughout its history as well as its projected future, including that of generative AI.
- Demonstrate an appreciation of the wide applicability of AI and data visualization.
- Work as a team member in a small group to address cross-disciplinary projects incorporating AI tools.
- Utilize applicable computer-based tools and languages to implement AI conversational systems, prediction systems, classification systems, text analysis, machine learning applications, and robotic technologies.
- Utilize applicable computer-based tools and languages to solve classical AI challenges and to implement predictive AI applications.
- Critique an AI model to determine its fairness and transparency.
- Identify and articulate the ethical issues involved with an AI system.
- Demonstrate an ability to employ AI machine learning models to leverage production applications and to leverage AI in IT processes and operations.
