NRS 4351 - Professional Practice IV:Care of Populations and Health Policy 4 Hour(s) This course builds on the concepts introduced in NRS 3002 Introduction to Population Health, allowing the student to view the community as a complex system of forces, and examine the nurse’s role in providing care. Students will gather and analyze data from public health sources and the community to prioritize primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention initiatives. Students will identify a health care disparity specific to a population, propose an advocacy plan to address it, and reflect on the inherent leadership and policy implications. The course will focus on the community as the client and the nurse as an advocate for policies that address social determinants of health and support optimal health outcomes.
